Brian G. DeRubertis

Brian G. DeRubertis, MD, FACS, is the Leon C. Hirsch Professor and Chief of the Division of Vascular & Endovascular Surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medicine in in New York City and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. After obtaining his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Los Angeles, Dr. DeRubertis earned his medical degree, residency, and fellowship training at Weill Cornell Medical College and Columbia University training programs. He earned the rank of Professor of Surgery at the UCLA School of Medicine where he spent nearly 15 years with the Division of Vascular Surgery before returning to New York.

His clinical interests include open and endovascular management of lower extremity arterial occlusive disease, complex aortic aneurysms, carotid artery disease and deep venous disease. His experiences with treating complicated vascular patients with cutting edge minimally invasive endovascular technologies has led him to become heavily involved in medical device innovation and development. He has worked with companies ranging from start-ups to major strategics, both in advisory capacities and trial leadership roles, and has interacted with investors, advisory panels, and governmental regulatory organizations while helping to develop vascular devices. Dr DeRubertis brings to these interactions the perspective of a practicing physician at a high-volume tertiary care center with a focus on clinical excellence.

Dr. DeRubertis’s particular interest in clinical trial design and execution, especially pertaining to chronic limb-threatening ischemia and below-knee interventions, has resulted in his participation in more than 25 clinical research studies, including roles as National Principal Investigator in the LIFE-BTK, LIFE-BTK Post-Approval Study, Magical BTK and REALITY trials. He has published more than 80 articles in peer-reviewed journals including New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Vascular Surgery, Surgery, Annals of Vascular Surgery, Cancer Gene Therapy and others, as well as more than 25 book chapters and other publications. He has presented his own research and given invited presentations at regional, national and international academic conferences, including the SVS, NEVS, WVS, VERVE, VEITH, TCT, LINC, Charing Cross and VIVA, delivering over 300 presentations at these conferences. He serves on the Board of Directors of the VIVA Foundation, and is a member of the Executive Committee of multiple international vascular conferences.

Dr. DeRubertis has received several honors and has been named among America’s Top Doctors by U.S. News and World Report in a collaboration with Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. that features peer-nominated physicians across 75 specialties.
